Jake has been training in strength and fitness for over 25 years and has been involved with Kung Fu since an early age. In recent years he has trained in Muay Thai Kickboxing, Jujitsu as well as Krav Maga, the self defense technique developed and used by the Israeli Army. Jake discovered CrossFit in 2009 when a couple of friends urged him to give it a try and his experiences at other “boxes” was life changing enough to get him his first certification in short order and soon after opened the first CrossFit facility in the valley in 2010. Jake is now a Level One and Two Certified Trainer and has more than a dozen other certifications. Participants in his classes will find tremendous dedication to everyone’s success. Don’t be afraid to ask any questions!
Level One Certified CrossFit Trainer – in his own words – I started Crossfit January 3rd, 2011 as a New Year’s resolution and constant nagging from a co-worker. I was 315# smoking a pack of cigarettes a day. I lost a 100# my first year and was so passionate about fitness that I decided to get my level one cert, not so much that I wanted to coach but to learn as much as I could and meet some of the elite athletes. So in November 2012 I took my level one and gradually started coaching under the tutelage of Jake Wheeler. I enjoy seeing someone get healthy and enjoying the same successes that I’ve head along the way. The beauty of CrossFit is that everything is scalable and modifiable, if it wasn’t I wouldn’t be here. I take pride that I can scale and/or modify a workout for any level of athlete and get them safely through any workout. Another thing we really like to focus on is nutrition. There’s a reason it’s at the base of the CrossFit pyramid! My favorite CrossFit quote? “What you eat in private, you wear in public”
Level One Certified CrossFit Trainer- in his own words – I have lived in Eagle/Gypsum for most of my life. I love the outdoors and fishing. I grew up playing a wide variety of sports. In high school I excelled in Football and Track. I earned a scholarship to play football at Colorado Mesa University. After college I became an assistant football coach at Eagle Valley High School and have been coaching there since 2011. I Started CrossFit in 2013 and it have never looked back. Being at HACF has made me into a well-rounded, stronger, faster, efficient and more athletic human. The sense of community and family makes this place very special to me.
